| Details for New Kind of Featherboard Plans
Free New Kind of Featherboard plans - I've always had problems with traditional finger-type featherboards. It's a real nuisance to discover that when the featherboard is applying enough pressure to hold the workpiece securely, it's hard to push the wood through the blade. I finally came up with a couple of alternatives that hold the stock tightly, yet do not resist forward movement. A further very big advantage of these jigs is that they permit safe climb cutting on the router table for unusual situations or for wood that has a tendency to splinter. You control the bearings by tightening the bearings against the stock. The construction details should be self-evident form the photos. I salvaged the rubbed-covered bearing from and old reel-to-reel tape deck, and the steel one came out of an old drill press. Although a clamp-on auxiliary fence and table top bolts are used in these pictures, a miter slot clamp, either shop-made or re-cycled from a commercial featherboard, could be incorporated and will make adjustments easy.
